
Michael Bauman took home the Cinematography award at this year’s BAFTAs for his lensing of Paul Thomas Anderson action thriller One Battle After Another.
This follows his recent win at the BSC Awards, and saw the American beat fierce competition from Sinners‘ Autumn Durald Arkapaw ASC – an AFC Award winner– Film Independent Spirit Award champion Adolpho Veloso ABC AIP (Train Dreams), Dan Laustsen ASC DFF (Frankenstein) and Darius Khondji ASC AFC (Marty Supreme).
Speaking to British Cinematographer after receiving his award, Bauman revealed: “It’s unbelievable. All the nominees were incredible and the work this year was fantastic and inspiring. It’s surreal.
“This is our fifth movie together [Bauman and Anderson] and it was a really incredible experience that was a career highlight. I think this story has a tremendous range as far as all the locations and environments [are concerned], and I’m just incredibly humbled to have been the recipient of all this.”
Bauman’s Cinematography win was one of six prizes for One Battle After Another overall, with Anderson gracing the stage to collect Best Film, Director and Adapted Screenplay.

Following behind was Sinners, which took three BAFTAs including Original Screenplay for Ryan Coogler.
Frankenstein also won in three categories: Costume, Make Up & Hair, and Production Design.
In the acting categories, Jessie Buckley won Leading Actress for Hamnet and Robert Aramayo won Leading Actor for I Swear, while Sean Penn took Supporting Actor for One Battle After Another and Wunmi Mosaku scooped Supporting Actress for Sinners.
My Father’s Shadow, lensed by Jermaine Edwards, saw director Akinola Davies Jr win Outstanding Debut, and Dame Donna Langley received the BAFTA Fellowship.
Elsewhere, Clare Binns received the Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema Award and Robert Aramayo took home a second trophy, the EE Rising Star Award, with I Swear taking Casting.

Sentimental Value won Film Not in the English Language, Mr. Nobody Against Putin took Documentary, and Zootropolis 2 won the Animated Film category.
Sports movie F1 won Sound and box office hit Avatar: Fire and Ash scooped Special Visual Effects.
The ceremony included a live performance of “Golden” from HUNTR/X – the singing stars of KPop Demon Hunters – while Jessie Ware gave a moving performance of “The Way We Were” during the In Memoriam section, to honour those in the film industry who have sadly passed away in the last 12 months.
