Eren Ibrahim has announced his retirement – he has been the face of the optical filters sales and rental department of Tiffen International, based at Pinewood Studios, also attending film events abroad and at home to promote Tiffen’s expanding filter range.
Ibrahim’s film career started in 1982 as a trainee at Samuelson Film Services in NW London, then continued when the company moved from Cricklewood to Greenford and rebranded as ‘Sammy’s’, which was later purchased by Panavision around ‘97/’98.
Later, the London Filter Company, part of Tiffen, was looking for a manager – Ibrahim applied and got the job, working with Carey Duffy in premises located next to The Oval in London.
“I was now able to connect more widely to film industry people including DPs, and also interact with film school students, giving them the opportunity to bring their camera setups to the Tiffen office to test first-hand the range of diffusion filters,” he said.
“I attended film schools to give presentations, and all the while my knowledge of optical filters was increasing. Following requests from DPs, I also had bespoke filters made combining two different diffusion filters as one.”
Tiffen International eventually relocated to Pinewood Studios, where Ibrahim has worked to promote the new range of Tiffen’s diffusion filters, which have proved “extremely successful” and have been used in a great many films, Tiffen said.
Ibrahim has collaborated with DPs like Denson Baker ACS NZCS, Ryan Eddleston and Seamus McGarvey ASC BSC ISC, introducing them to new Tiffen filters – which they have gone on to use in their work.
“I’ve been with Tiffen now for around 15 years, and it’s been a very enjoyable experience talking and promoting filters and working with Robin Thwaites and Danny Hallett and past colleagues in a workplace of trust and respect,” Ibrahim concluded.
