The National Film and Television School, in partnership with the Sean Connery Foundation, is accepting applications for Year 3 of the Sean Connery Talent Lab, with the deadline closing on 11 January 2026.
This year-long, part-time programme based in Edinburgh offers emerging filmmakers, including up to six emerging cinematographers, the chance to develop their craft through intensive training, industry mentorship and hands-on production.
For cinematographers looking to deepen their visual storytelling and collaborate within a professional filmmaking environment, the Lab provides access to high-end equipment, NFTS-led workshops, and the opportunity to be part of a creative team producing an ambitious short film supported by BBC Film with a production budget of £25,000.
Graduates finish with an NFTS Diploma in Filmmaking and a film ready to use as an industry calling card.
Completed films from Year 1 had their world premiere at the Edinburgh International Film Festival in August, giving participants an “exceptional” launchpad for their careers, organisers said.
Year 2 films made through the Sean Connery Talent Lab are currently in post-production and will screen in 2026.
Applications are now open through the NFTS website.
